AR 3/7/10

Got a chance to go out today, and I'm glad. Not so much the catching, actualy not at all the catching, but it was a great day, beautiful weather, nice day to be outdoors.

Was planning on fishing with my buddy Cody but he had to bail for understandable reasons so I was on my own. Waded into my first spot and was just getting into my groove when who comes down the river? The fuzz. great.

Just kidding, it was the friendly dfg kayak surveyors we've all come to know, and they passed with only a few short questions.

I continued casting to no avail, and went in search of new water. There wasnt much else in the area so I decided to pop over to kienes to pick some white calf tail and some polyleaders.

Walking back down to the river after visiting the shop, i realized. its HOT.

Anyways met up with a buddy Tayler and fished for a while, headed downriver and swung for a while for one LDR that was a nice 3ish 4ish pounder somewhat bright that went airborne and sent my fly back at me.

Good day of fishing for sure,
Ryder

p.s. heres some videos, not great quality and short, i didnt realized how much space they take up on the memory stick.

Pleasanton Fly Fishing Show 2010

I feel fortunate that this show is about 10 minutes from my house, and it was a good show. Always great to walk around like its a giant candy shop, got some compliments and some help from DVF FFF's members free casting lessons.

Also good to see friends like Jason Hartwick, and meet some new faces like Gary Anderson and John and Amy Hazel. In fact I think the highligh of my day was talking to John about some spey stuff and he complimented me on putting together a good setup, then Amy walks over and John says to Amy what i've said to him and she says, "Well he knows his shit!" John left me with an advanced spey casting video ive watched a couple times.

Also came home with some tying hooks and some pink bunny strips because all the purple were gone.

All in all, a good show.

Flies and Fly Tying

Today marked the transformation of a steelheader,

gladly trading these
For these

The bottom picture is also of the flies i've tied this past monday tuesday wednesday. Homework seems to have been replaced by fly tying, as far as afterschool activities. It now joins napping and reading a passion for steelhead.

Valentines Day Spey

Sorry It's been a while, not that anyone reads this blog at this point haha. Just been caught up schoolwork and stuff.

Made it out fishing on the AR with my dad and a friend on valentines day. Started off at spot 1 that i fished hard a couple times through, me nothing, but Garret managed a decent fish on a...i dont remember.
After, I decided it was time for a change in sceneryime for a change of scenery. Moved downriver to a place i've never been, man did it have this one PICTURE PERFECT run, and it produced my first spey/swung fly steelhead ever. A small 12", but a fish and a fighter nonetheless. It even managed to pick up 500 grains of skagit belly on a few jumps.

Hopefully more and bigger to come!
